Range Rover 1969-present

The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967, with the overall design finished by 1969.

Originally designed as a larger alternative to the Series models, the Range Rover development was kept under wraps by using the name Velar (based on the Italian word velare, meaning 'to veil'). There were some 40 pre-production Velar's produced, and rumor has it all are still accounted for today. Land Rover only began selling the Range Rover in the US in March of 1987.
